Hello World! The Mama Frat Blog is Born.

Mama Frat

This Mama Frat blog is intended to help you optimize life & live well even within the confines of  health setbacks such as  autoimmune diseases.  I will share the collective wisdom I have acquired over 20 plus years of dealing with my own health, autoimmune issues & doctors. I’ll offer the value and wisdom of my experiences. Over the years I have tried nearly every thing. As I short list Ive tried acupuncture, EMDR, EFT, essential oils, neuro-feedback, grounding, chiropractic care, functional medicine, conventional medicine and drugs, rebounding, energy work, medical intuitive, physical therapy, prayer, chi gong, Ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathy, yoga, acupressure, magnetic therapy, Shiatsu massage, herbs, meditation, Bach flower remedies, smudging, reiki, colon cleanses, Chinese (oriental) medicine, parasite cleanses, liver & kidney cleanses, fasts, noninflammatory diets, colon hydrotherapy, vegetarian diet (for 2 years), autoimmune diet, craniosacral therapy, vitamins, cupping, ear candling, feng shui, crystal & gem therapy, iridology, hypnotherapy, reflexology and  hiring a life coach. There are probably therapies I tried but cant remember right now. I’ll tell you what worked and how well. Some things I returned to and others I did not.

I am a mother, a wife and woman with a couple of autoimmune diseases who has experienced more than her fair share of doctors, frustrations, & challenges which led to such despair depression creeped in. I lived in chronic pain & inflammation. There was a time I no longer wanted to be here – not that I was brave enough to do anything about it but I welcomed my death. It seemed less painful than this life. Conventional medicine failed me and life seemed hopeless. This is the reason I share my experiences with you.

At 27 I was diagnosed with my first autoimmune disease: Hashimotos which affects your thyroid — and really everything in your body (see “Understanding Your Thyroid” post). Four years ago (lets just call it decades later so we don’t have to get too specific about age lol) I got my 2nd autoimmune disease. This one attacks my connective tissue – all over.  It came masqueraded with countless allergies, fatigue, chronic inflammation & pain. It stopped my daily workouts and weekend triathlons. My active life style was gone. After countless trips to specialists and failed attempts with conventional medicine I (once again) took my healing into my own hands and with the help of a few hard to find great doctors, lots of research, lots of trials and a few errors…. here I am.

I have reached the other side where pain is manageable, energy is back & I am grateful for life.  Today I am so happy to be alive, so grateful for another day. This is my wish for you. So, I will tell you everything I know, everything I tried and did to get here.  In a way its motherly advice.. but not from your mom… which for some people takes away the complicated component of “motherly advice” 🙂

Caring for your physical body isn’t the only key to good health & remission. Your mind – the way you think & feel plays a large role in your healing as well. So we will cover the tangible & less tangible aspects of cure too. Its not a quick drive down a short road. When you have an autoimmune disease or two or three… its a journey and sometimes a longer process than we want it to be. The good news is recovery, remission and loving life again is possible.

Here’s to your health. I hope you will follow me and benefit. Check out the Mama Frat Community FaceBook page too and share your story, the treatments that helped and any other thoughts & insights!

Thanks

Mama Frat
